PBLMD Student mobility

Student Mobility

In addition to the basic and fundamental requirement that there should be a learning agreement signed by the student and the home and host institutions, to ensure transparency, objectivity, equality of opportunity and feedback to unsuccessful applicants, MD project partners together with the National Coordinator in cooperation with EU project partners will ensure:

  • There should be a basic template for the preparation of students and each subject/institution should fill this in to say what, how, when, who will implement, which would be published no later than December 1 or June 1 on MD and EU project partner institution websites and project website calling for applications for upcoming semester mobility.
  • There should be established a common procedure and criteria for the selection of students which would be published no later than December 1 or June 1 on MD and EU project partner institution websites and project website.
  • There should be transparent coordination between the academic and administrative colleagues and students should be clear who is responsible and who to contact to answer queries.
  • There should be a succinct published statement of the student responsibilities and rights which will include providing up to date contact details, responding to requests for information and reports by the specified dates which would be published no later than December 1 or June 1 on MD and EU project partner institution websites and project website.

Preparation for student mobility should be considered under two headings:

  • Academic preparation: which will ensure that students are advised on course/module selection procedures and requirements for the home and host institutions; that they have a good understanding of the academic culture and learning and teaching arrangements and expectations of the host institution advice on preparatory reading and other work; give explicit information on the intended outcomes of the mobility, how credits and grades will be awarded and accredited; what aspects of the home programme will be replaced by the mobility modules; how the student will be monitored during the mobility; how feedback and evaluation of the mobility will be managed; what arrangements will be made to share this with the other subjects in the project; how the overall academic experience of the students will be reviewed and reported on and how it will contribute to the development of the PBL curriculum.
  • General administrative arrangements: this will cover general cultural preparation (including possible language classes for either language improvement or survival language); health and safety; risk analysis and management; insurance; visa requirements and help; any administrative requirements of home and host institution - what forms need to be completed and date deadlines; dates of host semesters; details of contacts in the host institution; information on grants payment and receipt; accommodation arrangements; costs of living; medical and health arrangements; who to contact in an emergency - with full 24/7 contact details; reporting and registration requirements. In both cases there should be details of how the information is to be provided - through meetings, handouts, VLE (Moodle or other), Facebook groups.
